The lauric acid from coconut oil can also be found in breast milk and it is believed to be a powerful cancer fighter. The journal Cancer Research published a study where the anti-cancer properties of the lauric acid were explained. According to this study 50% of coconut oil is lauric acid. The researchers discovered that this acid is able to exterminate more than 90% of colon cancer after just two days of in vitro cell line treatment.
In vitro is a technique of performing a procedure outside of a living organism in a controlled environment. During an In vivo procedure, on the other hand the experiment is performed in living organisms. Because the coconut oil experiments were performed in vitro some may find it hard to believe in the findings that the scientists made. Doing more research and performing more experiments is expensive and scientists have trouble finding the funds without the help of pharmaceutical companies.
Other clinical studies have shown that coconut oil and the medium-chain fatty acids it contains can be very useful for treating and preventing numerous diseases. Some of these diseases include osteoporosis, virus-related and gallbladder disease, Chrohn’s disease and cancer. Previous research has also shown that coconut oil reduces the side effects caused by chemotherapy and it also improves the quality of life of the patients.
